This constellation chart is a rare, original, hand-colored print by WG Evans for Elijah Burritt's 'Atlas to Illustrate the Geography of the Heavens', printed in 1856 NY. Burritt drew the original map, and Evans was the master printer for the atlas. It shows many famous constellations such as Piscis Volans. & Hydrus, which are depicted as animals (fish & snakes) or gods of mythology for the most part. It also shows zodiac figures & their matching signs around the edges of the map. It makes for a beautiful print of earthly fauna with beautiful celestial plotting.
The map itself measures 13.5 x 15 inches (34.5 x 38") while the full matted product measures 20 x 24 inches. It is in overall VG+ condition with minimal wear or aging. It is matted with a cream low texture mat & ready for its frame. Makes for a wonderful & easy gift, for yourself or others!
